Stone ring road needs urgent action

take urgent steps to solve the many negative consequences following new traffic flow arrangements and pedestrian crossings on the Christchurch Way ring road in Stone. An immediate review of the current system must be carried out

The new traffic flow and pedestrian crossings are causing chaos in Stone at peak periods. Shoppers are facing waits of up to 90 minutes to get out off Morrisons at the junction of Mill Street and Christchurch Way. Additionally, queues stretch right up Radford Street as cars wait to filter into the new lane filters. No consultation was carried out with the people of Stone before the new arrangements were put in place and they have had nothing but negative consequences

Council response

Over recent months, the County Council has undertaken works on Christchurch Way with the objective of improving traffic flows through the Lichfield Road junction.

The impact of the works has been and will continue to be monitored and assessed which has already resulted in numerous changes to the layout of the road and signal timings while still maintaining the high level of pedestrian facilities, particularly in the Mill Street area.

We are currently undertaking a CCTV surveys on Christchurch Way which will provide additional information on the specific problems that are being experienced at some peak times.
