“The county council has changed significantly over the last seven years, focusing on and investing in the things that matter most to our people. We have found new and better ways of working to deliver results at the same time as reducing our costs by £178m.

Our draft budget for next year continues our track record of increasing investment in care for the most vulnerable in our communities, young and old and next year we will spend almost £300m on care, more than ever before.

We will also continue investment in our economy, creating the right conditions for business to grow and create more, well-paid jobs for the residents of Staffordshire.”

Philip Atkins OBE, Leader of the Council

 While we celebrate people living longer, we also need to recognise the pressure this places on health and social care services, and ultimately taxpayers who fund them. This is the most challenging budget to date, but we are committed to delivering a fair budget which focuses  on the things that make the biggest difference in people’s lives.”

Ian Parry, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Matters.

Reasons for the Decision – To provide Cabinetwith an update on the evolving work in preparing the Council’s Strategic Plan and Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS).

Decision That, in respect of the Strategic Plan and Medium Term Financial Strategy 2017-2022:

(i)            The progress made in developing the Business Plan for 2017/18 be noted;

(ii)          The challenging financial outlook facing the County Council be noted:
