Covid-19 Contingency Provision - Laches Wood (Wolverhampton)

Decision Maker: Director for Families and Communities

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The children care sector is currently managing the current effects of COVID-19, however, it is unknown what the impact of this will be in the near future. Laches Wood has been identified as a facility that could provide the capacity to allow children and young people to reside if there becomes an issue in current placements such as residential placements, foster placements and supported accommodation just to name a few. To ensure that Staffordshire County Council continues to have a contingency this resource provides the Council with access to a facility that can meet ongoing need. The period of the 20th April 2020 to 28th June 2020 has previously been agreed. This is a request for a further 7 weeks and 1 day to the 17th August 20.

Decision:

Approval for use of Laches Wood for children and young people where the needs arises. Cost is £2,000 per week.

Alternative options considered:

Options 1: Doing nothing. Risks are that an alternative will not be available at short notice and any found maybe much more costly.

Options 2 : Continue with contingency and have Laches Wood available to access if required for a period for a further 7 weeks and 1 day from the 29th June 2020 to the 17th August 2020.
