With regret, following a period of public
consultation, the governing body published a statutory notice on 20
March proposing that The Henry Prince CE (C) First School closes on
31 August 2019. There now follows a 4-week period for the receipt
of comments and objections before Cabinet, as the statutory
decision maker, must determine the closure proposal.
“It is with great sadness that cabinet has approved the closure of The Henry Prince First School. However, we have to act in the children’s best interests, ensure they have access to a high-quality education and that they are given every opportunity to succeed in their studies.
We have worked with the school and know that the headteacher and governors have done all they can to try and attract enough pupils to ensure the school is viable. Having so few pupils means the school is unable to pay for the staff and resources required to deliver a high-quality education.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make, but we have to put the welfare and education of pupils first.”
Philip White, Cabinet Member for Learning and Employability
Reasons for the Decision – To determine the proposal to close The Henry Prince School which is facing two critical issues: low pupil numbers and a large budget deficit.
Decision – (a) That the statutory proposal to close The Henry Prince CE (C) First School, Mayfield on 31 August 2019 be approved.
(b) That expenditure of up to £750 be approved to provide parents with a contribution towards the cost of new school uniform for their children.
